SHOT Show Update – 2009
Sunday, January 18th, 2009Hello Folks,
Just dropping a line from Orlando, Florida as the 2009 SHOT Show comes to a close. SHOT is the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Show held once a year. It is great to see all the suppliers and manufacturers in one place. I thought I would let you know about a few of the new products we saw that will eventually find a home in a Sinclair catalog or on our website.
We visited with our friends at Hornady as usual and found a few products we found interesting and are looking forward to playing with them a little more as soon as they are available. One of them was their new motorized case preparation work station that has several powered stations for everything from case trimming, uniforming, flash hole deburring, case mouth deburring and chamfering, and more. This is a very ruggedly built unit and will take a lot of time out of case work. We expect to see these within a few months. They also are introducing a bullet straightening/concentricity tool that is very easy to use. This tool may be beneficial to those shooting very long range.
Our RCBS visit found us looking at their .50 BMG reloading dies, bullet puller, and powder measure, press, and other .50 BMG tools. This gear is very heavy duty and we were very impressed with the quality. A lot of you big bore shooters should take a look at this, if you already haven’t. Their new bullet feed for progressive presses is really a nice upgrade if you use a progressive press. We used it on the RCBS Pro 2000 Auto-indexing press at the show and it works really well. It will work for most progressive presses.
For the long-range shooters, Nosler is introducing a new 6mm 105 grain competition bullet. This is going to be a fun bullet to try in your fast twist 6 mm’s. We think this is going to be a great bullet because we know how well their other competition bullets shoot. Nosler has also added 25-06 and 7-08 to their high quality, pre-prepped, unprimed brass line.
Sierra has a new Palma weight bullet design coming out in early March. This new .30 caliber, 155 grain bullet has a longer more streamlined design, longer OAL, and has a pointed meplat. We will be trying these out as soon as they are available and will let you know how they do. Sierra will still be producing their standard .30 caliber, 155 grain bullet. The new bullet’s part # is #2156.
Lapua is bringing out a .338 caliber, 300 grain Scenar bullet that will be really popular with long-range shooters. They also are bring out 222 Remington unprimed brass. Both of these products should be available in the next 3 months.
One of our last stops was the Norma booth. Norma reported quite a bit of interest in their new .338 Norma Mag brass. A lot of people have been interested in this cartridge. Dave Kiff of Pacific Tool has been selling a lot of reamers for this cartridge. This would pair up well with the Lapua 300 grain Scenar discussed above. As far as we know, Redding and Hornady are making dies for this cartridge and possibly RCBS.
The above was just a few of the great products we saw at the show. We are looking forward to the new Leupold VX-3’s (not to be confused with VX-III’s). Redding has added some new die calibers to their line and Berger Bullets has added some new bullets plus some larger quantity boxes. We’ll be packing up and heading back to the cold weather tomorrow. We are looking forward to trying some of the new products out as soon as we can.
See you soon!
